12 tháng 8 hằng năm là một ngày rất quan trọng đối với người dân của đất nước Thái Lan. Vì ngày này không chỉ là ngày của Mẹ mà ngày này còn là kỷ niệm ngày sinh nhật của Hoàng hậu Sirikit. Cùng với Đức vua Bhumibol Adulyadej, Hoàng hậu Sirikit rất được người dân trong nước kính trọng và tôn sùng bởi những việc làm đem đến nhiều lợi ích và sự thịnh vượng cho vương quốc cũng như là toàn dân.

Hoàng hậu Sirikit sinh ngày 12.8.1932 trong một gia đình thuộc tầng lớp quý tộc ở Bangkok. Bà được đặt tên Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara, có nghĩa là "Sự rực rỡ và lộng lẫy của gia đình Kittiyakara". Chính Vua Rama VII (Quốc vương Prajadipok), người có quan hệ họ hàng với gia đình bà, đã đặt tên này. Bản thân việc được nhà vua đặt tên đã cho thấy điềm tốt lành sẽ đến với bà. Một nhà tiên tri khi đó đã đoán rằng sau này bà sẽ bước lên vị trí quyền quý.

Khi còn nhỏ, bà theo học trường Rajini rồi sau đó là trường St Francis Xavier Convent ở Thái Lan cho đến năm 13 tuổi. Sau đó, bà theo cha mình sang London (Anh). Vào năm 1948, bà tiếp tục theo cha đến Paris (Pháp). Khi đó cha bà là Đại sứ Vương quốc Thái Lan tại Pháp. Tại thành phố Paris lãng mạn, bà đã gặp Quốc vương Bhumibol Adulyadej (lên ngôi năm 1946). Quốc vương khi đó đang học ở Thuỵ Sĩ và thường sang Pháp để nghỉ hè. Khi Quốc vương bị tai nạn giao thông ở Thuỵ Sĩ và phải vào viện, bà là người thường xuyên đến thăm hỏi. Thế rồi, bà cùng với Quốc vương Bhumibol Adulyadej đã làm lễ đính ước vào ngày 19.7.1949 ở Thuỵ Sĩ. Một lễ cưới theo đúng nghi thức hoàng gia được cử hành vào ngày 28.4.1950 tại Thái Lan. Từ đó, cùng với Quốc vương Bhumibol Adulyadej, Hoàng hậu Sirikit đã dành hết tâm huyết để đem lại thịnh vượng cho Vương quốc Thái Lan và người dân xứ này.

Khoảng thời gian trước, thông qua các phương tiện truyền thông, biết được chú voi con mới một tháng tuổi ở Trung tâm Bảo tồn voi Thái Lan bị gầy yếu do voi mẹ mất sữa, bà đã dành 300.000 baht (gần 9.000 USD) từ quỹ riêng của mình để mua sữa cho chú voi con này.
Ngoài ra, bà cũng hoạt động tích cực trong việc quảng bá văn hoá và lịch sử Thái Lan. Bộ phim Truyền thuyết về Hoàng hậu Suriyothai ra đời với sự bảo trợ của Hoàng hậu Sirikit được biết đến như là một trong những bộ phim lịch sử hoành tráng nhất Thái Lan. Bộ phim đã thu hút sự quan tâm của giới trẻ nói riêng và cũng đã làm cho người Thái nói chung hiểu rõ hơn về lịch sử của mình. Vấn đề tiếp theo mà Hoàng hậu Sirikit quan tâm là phụ nữ. Bà hiểu phụ nữ Thái Lan cần gì và biết khả năng của họ như thế nào. Vì vậy, bà không ngừng khuyến khích phụ nữ Thái tham gia các công việc thủ công mỹ nghệ truyền thống như dệt, đan lát thông qua việc tài trợ tiền làm các khung cửi và bảo trợ cho các hợp tác xã.

- Trung tâm Hội nghị quốc gia Hoàng hậu Sirikit (Bangkok)
- Công viên Hoàng hậu Sirikit (Bangkok)
- Đập nước Hoàng hậu Sirikit trên sông Nan (tỉnh Uttaradit)
- Vườn bách thảo Hoàng hậu Sirikit (Chiang Mai)
- Vườn gỗ Hoàng hậu Sirikit (tỉnh Pathum Thani)
Ở Thái Lan, người ta có nhiều cách để bày tỏ lòng kính trọng với Hoàng hậu Sirikit. Nếu như thứ hai hằng tuần người Thái mặc áo vàng để tỏ lòng tôn kính đối với Quốc vương Bhumibol Adulyadej thì thứ sáu hằng tuần họ lại mặc áo xanh dương, màu tượng trưng cho Hoàng hậu. Truyền thống này đủ để chứng minh điều mà người ta vẫn nhắc đi nhắc lại bấy lâu nay rằng Hoàng gia Thái Lan là một trong những Hoàng gia được lòng dân nhất trên thế giới.
